When it Rains it Pours
I went back to the minor E.R. last night because I was out of the antibiotic they prescribed and I’ve still been having the pain in my side. I was supposed to go back there anyway for a follow-up urinalysis to make sure the UTI was gone. I seen a different doctor this time and he was a lot more thorough than the other guy. My blood pressure was still extremely high. It was 172/109 last night and last week it 173/102. I figured it was so high then because the pain, but I wasn’t in near as much last night as I had been.
This doctor said the UTI is gone, but he thinks I have kidney stones. He also said I’m “ridiculously dehydrated” and the flu I thought I was over from last month has returned. He wanted me to go to the E.R. for IV antibiotics and an IV to hydrate me and to have a CT done to see whether I have kidney stones or not.
I told him how much I hate hospitals and that’d I’d rather take care of it at home if possible. He wrote me another script for Levaquin and something for nausea, told me I have to get rehydrated and a lot of rest. Then he said if the pain gets worse or if I have another episode of blurred vision I have to get to the E.R. I had to promise him; otherwise he would have called an ambulance for me then.
This is putting me in a touchy situation with my job. At call centers it is a crime if you call in, no matter the reason. I like Dish Network and I enjoy my job most of the time, but I feel guilty for being sick and missing work. I also know that this has ruined my chances for promotion for another 90 days minimum and that really bothers me.
I had originally gone to the minor E.R. on the 28th. That doctor had told me to stay home from work for at least one day, but I went in on the 29th anyway. I was in agony most of the day because they didn’t give me anything for pain, but I soldiered through it. Then about an hour before my shift was over I was helping a customer and my vision went completely blurry; all I could make out were shapes. I frantically rubbed my eyes and shook my head for several minutes in an effort to get my vision back, but it didn’t return to normal for about 10 minutes.
After that I decided I needed to go to the hospital after my shift was over. I called Tori so if I had another vision episode while driving to the hospital she would know where I was. I made it to the nearest hospital, St. Francis, without incident. However, their E.R. was packed and I was told it was about a 5-6 hour wait to see a doctor. I didn’t want to wait that long. I was exhausted and in pain, so I left.
I called my mom and had her call the other local hospitals and they were all busy as hell. The shortest wait was 3 hours. I decided to just go home and try to get some rest. When I woke up, I felt horrible and my mom had stolen my car and money yet again so I called in to work the 30th. I wasn’t any better the next day, so I called in again. I had scheduled to be off on November 1st a couple of months ago and my normal days off are Mondays and Tuesdays. I figured I’d be better by Wednesday and able to return to work.
Monday I had a counseling appointment and I didn’t want to miss it, so I dragged myself out. I was feeling a bit better that day. Afterwards, I went out to dinner with Tori and Taylor. When I got home, I had a certified letter waiting on me from my car insurance company. Apparently, my mom had stolen my car again on October 16th without my knowledge and she had back in to someone else’s car and she gave my insurance information to that person. I was livid. She wasn’t here when I got the letter, so I called the insurance company. They told me the accident had happened at the casino. I told them not to pay out the claim because she didn’t have my permission to use the car and I don’t want my premiums going up because of her.
Tuesday I woke up with chills then when I went back to bed I woke up drenched in sweat. The side pain eases up during the day a bit, but at night it’s almost unbearable. I had found some Lortab syrup I had leftover from when I had pleurisy in January so I took it and it helped me get through the night.
When I woke up yesterday the flu symptoms were worse and I was out of the Dayquil and Nyquil I had used to suppress them. I spent most of the day in bed. I had taken my last Levaquin yesterday and still had the flank pain and I was also having muscle spasms. I assumed the UTI wasn’t cured, so I went back to the minor E.R.
Tori had me pick her up after I left the minor E.R. last night. We came back to my house. The side pain got worse again, but I didn’t go to the E.R. I decided to wait and see how I felt this morning. I still feel pretty shitty, but the pain has lessened. I called in again and I’m gonna try to get some rest, then depending on how I feel when I wake up I may bite the bullet and go to the hospital.
