I volunteered to do taxes for broke dick people1 today. Community Action Project (CAP) is a local charity who helps low income families with housing, financial education classes, and free tax preparation.

It was the first day they accepted clients. It was pretty slow because there were so many volunteers and it’s still very early in the tax season. There aren’t many people who have their W2′s and other tax forms yet. The highlight of my afternoon was telling a single mother of two that she is getting a little over $6K back on her federal taxes and over $500 back on state. She’s going to be putting a down payment on a home.

Volunteering is very rewarding, but I got bills that aren’t going to pay themselves. I hope a full-time position I’m qualified for opens up at CAP soon. I want to there.
