Employment
Yesterday, Pam Smith from the Community Action Project1 called me. She asked me if I would be interested in working at one of their sites preparing taxes for needy families. Every year CAP and about 175 volunteers prepare taxes for low income families at no cost to the families. She said most positions are volunteer, but she wants to hire me. The money is good, it’s a temporary, part-time position, and it’s very rewarding work. I gladly accepted her offer. I have an all day tax prep class tomorrow and next week I’ll have to take the certification exam.
The job doesn’t start until the end of the month, which is when I’m set to go back to work at Directv. I’ll work both jobs. My doctor wants me to work part-time at Directv until I get back into the groove. He doesn’t want a repeat of what happened when I went back to work last October. I want out of Directv so bad I can hardly stand it, but I have to soldier through it until I find another full-time job with medical insurance. I look for that while I’m still working for CAP.
I’ll be smart this time and start a savings account after I get caught up on everything. Short-term disability only pays me $260 a week and it has been impossible to keep up with all my bills. I think all the stress of dealing with Met Life and of not having enough money to cover my debts kept me from getting better faster. I’m still not 100%, but I’ve improved and I think maybe the meds the doctor added a couple months ago is finally in my system and working. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I hate staying home everyday. It’s driving me crazy… no pun intended.
