On the way home from a shopping spree with one of my roommates, I was stopped by a cop. We were less than a mile from our house.

I saw the cop when I was at the top of the hill; long before he pulled me over. I had hastily put my seatbelt on before I got close enough for him to see that I didn’t have one on and I looked at my speedometer to make sure I wasn’t speeding.

The speed limit was 30mph and I was going 33mph so I tapped the brake. We passed by him and less than 30 seconds later he was behind my Explorer, sirens blaring, and lights flashing.

I started cussing immediately. He walked up to the window and had attitude, so I copped an attitude with him. Police officer or not, if someone doesn’t show me respect I return the favor.

I sharply asked him why he pulled me over and he said I was speeding. He said, ‘You were going 39 in a 30.’

I said, ‘No I wasn’t. I know for a fact I wasn’t going that fast because I checked my speed as soon as I saw you. I was only going 33mph.’

He asked if I lived around there and I told him I lived about a mile away. He wanted to know if I heard about the little girl who had been killed by a hit and run driver a few weeks before. I told him I hadn’t.

He said, ‘I had to that accident and I’ve made it my mission to make this a safe street.’

I said, ‘With all due respect to that little girl, I am not responsible for her .’

He walked off without responding. A few minutes later, he walked back to my vehicle, carrying his ticket book. He asked me to sign it and told me the fine was $165 and it was due by July 13. He also gave me the address to mail payment. I told him I was going to fight the ticket because it was bullshit.

He said, ‘Well, I’ll see you in court then.’

I said, ‘You certainly will, Officer Smith.’ It’s a pity he was such an asshole because he was good-looking.

My roommate was a nervous wreck. He hates cops too. He wanted to know why I was being sassy with the cop. I told him, ‘I’m not in the mood to take shit from anyone, especially a cop.’

Cops think they are hot shit because they have the power to arrest people. From my experience, they arrest people that don’t deserve jail and let the people that really should be imprisoned go free.

I don’t have respect for them. They were never there when I needed them.

On this day..
