Monday night, Nick and I were sitting on the porch smoking when something unexpected and unnerving happened.
We heard many sirens. They sounded far away at first, but they got close quickly. Nick jokingly said, ‘They’re comin’ to get me.’
No sooner than he finished the sentence, seven police cars flew around the street corner. They slammed on their brakes two houses away. Several cops jumped out of the cruisers with their guns drawn screaming, ‘GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!’
